Today was day 5 of my detox loosely based on Shape's Clean Green Food & Drink Cleanse. So far over the course of this detox, I'm feeling a lot less bloated, I have more energy and I'm feeling satisfied for a lot longer. My blood sugar isn't spiking and dropping like it often does.
Green Banana Mint Smoothie
-1 cup organic unsweetened almond milk
-1 cup organic baby spinach
-1 frozen organic banana
-1 scoop vanilla protein powder
-2 tbsp organic milled flaxseed
-1 tsp mint extract
-1 tbsp cocoa powder
-1 cup ice
I also had a hot cup of green tea with lemon to keep me warm on a frigid cold day!
It was absolutely freezing today! With temperatures well below -20 degrees Celsius and feeling like below -40 degrees with the wind chill factor, I was not going outside today! It was another snow day due to these temperatures, so I had another day to stay home and relax.
Our apartment building's heat couldn't keep up with the cold temperatures outside, so when our apartment temperature started dropping below 19 degrees Celsius, we turned on the oven to keep warm. Brrr!
Zeke had his own unique way of keeping warm!
During our cuddle on the couch, Zeke accidentally knocked over my morning smoothie leaving over half of it on the living room carpet. I was not in the mood to make another one, so I just had a piece of quinoa and flaxseed toast with organic peanut butter instead.
I also sipped on Bolthouse Farms Orange + Carrot juice this morning to get some extra vitamin C as I feel like I might be coming down with a cold. Knock on wood it passes quickly!
It was far too cold to make a smoothie for lunch, so I opted for chicken and vegetable soup/stew for lunch. I thought it was soup, but it turned out looking more like stew than soup! It may look disgusting, but it kept me warm and didn't taste too bad.
I was really looking forward to hit the gym today and I was able to do an amazing workout! I had just visited the chiropractor this morning, so I didn't want to strain my back doing power cleans and burpees in today's GPP Fitness workout. Instead, I decided to do a run and ended up running a really nice, leisurely 5k in 33 minutes! I felt fantastic and could have kept going if I really wanted to. I haven't done a full 5k in a long time, so I was just happy that I was able to do it without any breaks.
I finished up with a killer 20-minute core session followed by 10 minutes of stretching.
I was hungry when I got home, so I had one of my oatmeal blueberry muffins to keep me satisfied as I made dinner.
I kind of strayed from the detox meal plan today and I ended up having a small bowl of mini turkey meatballs with sweet and sour sauce along with some butternut squash for dinner.
I know I will be going back to work tomorrow, so I need to get to bed early if I want to be able to wake up at 5:30am tomorrow. It's been a while since I've woken up at that time and I'm not really looking forward to it!
