Today was an awesome day! No, nothing special happened...and yes, all I did was study and work all day...but it was still incredible. I finally made it back to the gym after taking a week off due to a nasty chest and head cold. Yay!
I started my day off on the right foot with a big bowl of oatmeal. I used one and a half packets of Quaker Instant Maple & Brown Sugar Oatmeal, but vamped it up a little bit by adding in two egg whites, a tablespoon of flaxseed and a splash of skim milk.
I wasn't hungry at all this morning for a morning snack, so I ended up foregoing the snack and made a pretty big lunch instead. I had a bowl of tangy vegetarian brown beans with some multigrain tortilla chips to eat with the beans, and a salad on the side.
The salad tasted delicious and was loaded with veggies!
After a hard study session and a quick 5 hour shift at work, it was finally time to head home. I snapped this gorgeous shot on my drive home from work. It was such a sunny, beautiful afternoon and the hot air balloon just made it picture perfect.
After picking up some groceries, Casey and I were in a crunch. We ended up bringing home a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store with a side of onion rings and broccoli slad from the deli. I didn't have much time to prepare a meal, especially with loads of studying to still accomplish.
The meal wasn't too bad--the chicken was fantastic actually--but I would have prefered a home-cooked meal instead of soggy onion rings and overdressed broccoli salad. Oh well, live and learn!
As I mentioned earlier, I managed to get back into the gym today after taking a week off to recover from a head cold and nasty cough. I knew I needed to get some studying done, so I made today a hardcore cardio session with some abs tied onto the end.
I ended up doing a solid 30-minute interval workout on the recumbant bicycle as I studied for my exam. After that, I hopped on the elliptical for another 20-minute interval workout to finish up some studying.
Once my cardio session was complete, I moved over to a medium-sized exercise ball to do some weighted sit ups on the ball. I did 50 regular sit ups on the ball using a 10lbs weight held at chest level, 50 oblique sit ups using the same weight (25 each side), and five 10-second isometric contraction sessions (pulsating abs every second) at the bottom of the sit up holding onto the weight. I've found this routine to be the most effective workout for my own core, particularly my obliques, lower abdominals, and back. Give it a try and let me know what you think!
