Nice to see you all again!
Casey, Zeke and I had a fun and adventurous weekend, but it feel so good to be back. After our car excitement yesterday morning, I was ready for a mini camping vacation. Here's how it went...
We went straight from our apartment to the St. Jacob's Farmer's Market where we started our trip off with a delicious lunch. I opted for freshly fried haddock on a multigrain bun, while Casey had sausage on a bun. We both shared an order of french fries and a Diet Pepsi, as well.
My fish was incredible! It was hot and flakey, with a tangy tartar sauce and a freshly baked multigrain bun that were to die for. I didn't want the bun to overpower the fish, so I ate my fish-on-a-bun open-faced (without the top bun).
Once we were fueled, we started our Farmer's Market shopping adventure! We bought loads of fresh fruit and vegetables from local mennonites that will appear throughout the rest of the weekend.
We arrived at our campsite shortly after 4pm and got everything set up in a flash, thanks to speedy Casey!
We munched on some concord grapes as an afternoon snack, one of the many treats we picked up at the Farmer's Market.
After getting the campsite set up, Casey grabbed a peach for us to share while we went back into St. Jacob's to find a campfire cooker for our hotdogs. We were a little absent-minded in packing for this trip, so a campfire cooker is just one of the things we forgot to pack. Oops!
During our smogy shopping trip, we each enjoyed a tasty maple candy from the Farmer's Market. These are quite possibly the primary reason why I get so excited to go to the Farmer's Market every year. Deeelish!
After a few hours in the scorching hot sun, we needed a little treat to cool us down. We both ordered a low-fat raspberry frozen yogurt--mine in a cup and Casey's in a cone. As I said in the blog's title, this was surely the weekend of treating ourselves! This was some of the best frozen yogurt I've ever tasted and it was so full of fruit. I could taste whole frozen raspberries throughout the yogurt!
It was well past dinner by the time we got back to the campsite. Zeke was hot, but excited to enjoy all the sights and sounds of the campground.
As was I!
Dinner consisted of a series of snacks. First, yellow and green beans from the Farmer's Market.
Zeke lounged on his tarp while we ate. We had to put a tarp down because he wasn't too impressed with lying on the dirty ground. How spoiled is he?
The second part of dinner included hotdogs roasted over the fire...without the buns! Why? Because we forgot them at home. Another oops! Oh well, they were tasty nonetheless!
Finally, I had a small slice of zucchini bread from the market. It was pretty good, but not the best zucchini bread I've ever tasted. We were pretty sure it was factory-made zucchini bread, but we bought it anyway. Homemade zucchini bread would have been lightyears tastier!
After dinner, we helped our tummies digest by going for another long walk. I think we walked about 80% of our waking weekend. It felt incredible! It also made eating so many treats a little easier!
Once the sun started to set, it was time for S'MORES! We whipped out our s'mores ingredients and got started. We were both super excited to try these Petit Ecolier cookies with chocolate on top and even more excited to try the ones with white chocolate on top!!
They were AH-MAZING! It was better than I could have even imagined. From now on, I'm making white s'mores all the way!
We ended up going to bed pretty early that night. The earlier sunset time threw off our biological clocks, so we were tired by 10pm. That meant we were wide awake by 6:30am and ready to start the day.
What better way to wake up than going for another long walk with Zeke!
We enjoyed more farmer's market treats for breakfast, including peaches and zucchini bread.
We spent Sunday morning in Elora, exploring the shops, sights and the Elora Gorge. This is the location where Casey proposed to me just over two years ago!
We had loads of fun hiking through the trails and playing with Zeke. He loved all of the hiking, mini-caves and even the water!
We were super sweaty by the time our hike was done, but we were all happy!
We were all done our trip and ready to head home by the time noon rolled around. We stopped by Starbucks on the way home to use up two free drink coupons--one from my birthday and the other from an order mix-up we had a few weeks ago.
I ordered a Grande Caramel Light Blended Frappuccino while Casey ordered a VENTI Mocha Coconut Light Blended Frappuccino. The venti was HUGE! He only ordered it because it was free, but even Casey hadn't expected it to be that big. These drinks turned out to be our lunch for the day. Holy moly!
By the time we got home and unpacked, it was mid-afternoon. It was time for a late lunch or early dinner. Since we didn't have any food in our fridge, we stopped by Loblaws to grab a rotisserie chicken, along with some oven-roasted potato wedges and onion rings. I had half of a chicken breast, some onion rings and potato wedges, and a big salad on the side.
Poor, exhausted Zekey slept as we ate. He loved the trip, but it definitely tired him out. Poor guy!
I've got lots of laundry to catch up on, so I should get back to it. I hope you all had as great a weekend as we did! If you did anything special, tell me about it!
