The Great S'mores Experiment

I'm baaaack!

I had a fantastic weekend with Casey and some friends, but it sure does feel great to be back. I took lots of pictures of my weekend, so you didn't miss a beat. Here it goes...

Casey and I loaded up the car on Thursday night because instead of going in to work on Friday, Casey would be travelling with some coworkers for an exam in order to build on his horticulture certifications. Since the testing centre was on the way to the campground, I met up with him after his exam and we went straight to the camp site.

I started off my long day of driving with great music and an iced coffee in hand cup-holder!

First, I had to take Zeke out to my parent's house where he would be staying for Friday and Saturday. I hated leaving him alone overnight for the first time since our honeymoon, but I knew he was in excellent, loving hands.

And so began my roadtrip!

I arrived at the testing centre a little early, so I pulled out a magazine to read while I ate some snacks for lunch. I had some In Snax Pita Crisps and sugar snap peas for lunch in the car.

It was a bit of a long wait, but I think it felt longer than it actually was because I was so excited to see Casey and to head to the campground.

On the way, we drove through a little town called Dunnville, home of "Muddie" the world's largest Mud Cat statue. Who knew?!

We ended up arriving at the campground hours before everyone else, so we opted to grab dinner before setting up camp. We went to one of the only restaurants in a small town just outside the park...McDonald's. I ordered the Bistro Grilled Chicken BLT sandwich and small fries. I gave my bacon to Casey, scraped off a large amount of mayonnaise and only ate half of the whole wheat bun. After all of my little "modification", this sandwich actually tasted pretty good!

We finally made it to the campground and started setting up camp. We set up our own tent as well another one of our tents for our friends to use.

We spent the majority of the first night making some new friends, hanging out with familiar faces, and opening our drinks with the butt-end of an axe. We certainly were a creative bunch!

That night began the great s'mores experiment. Our first s'mores variation was a double decker marshmallow s'more. Yum!

We laughed until the wee hours of the morning before calling it a night.

The next morning, we woke to the sounds of pitter pattering on our tent. It had been raining all night and didn't look like it would be stopping any time soon. Casey began setting up a shelter for us to sit under to protect ourselves from the rain.

Before the others woke up, we took a drive to pick up some more better burning firewood than the wood for sale at the camp store. We picked up some tea from Tim Horton's to warm our chilled, wet bodies on our way back.

I had a blueberry cornbread muffin and watermelon for breakfast with my steeped tea with one milk and one Splenda.

After breakfast, we all headed out for a long hike that took us roughly six kilometers down along the shoreline. One part of the beach was covered in dead zebra mussels that had washed up on shore.

No, that isn't white sand you're seeing...it's all zebra mussel shells!

Casey and I were in our element on this two and a half hour hike. We loved every minute of it!

We also made a friend along the way. Isn't he/she cute?!

We were all pretty hungry by the time we got back from our walk. I made myself a sandwich for lunch with some more watermelon on the side, but changed my mind shortly after making the sandwich and had a chicken hot dog on a whole wheat bun instead. Oops!

More s'moresing ensued in the afternoon, this time with a new s'mores variation...

...the Fudgeo S'more! I'm not going to lie, it was pretty epic!

Our long hike tired out all of us, including cutie-pie Scout! All but a few of us had afternoon naps to prepare for another fun (and late) evening.

I didn't manage to snap any photos of the second night of our trip, but we had a lot of fun playing Blockus and Buzz Words, laughing at exerpts from Fifty Shades of Grey, and chatting long into the night. Casey and I had to leave late last night because I had to work this morning. We hit the road around 10:30pm and made it home around 1:00am. We were more than happy to see our little Zekey again and sleep in the comfort of our own bed.

I slept in right up until I had to go to work this morning. I made myself a late breakfast of large flake oats with peanut butter on top before heading off to my awkward 10:30am to 3:30pm shift that went straight through lunch.

I ate an apple and a small handful of almonds while I was at work, but I was still hungry by the time I got home. Casey and I made a quick grocery shopping trip before dinner (aka my lunch) and picked up a store-made stew from Remark Fresh Market. After spending 25 minutes in the oven, our stew was ready to eat for a late lunch/early dinner.

I also ate a small leftover hot dog bun with my stew. Everything was delicious!

Finally, I made myself a bowl of frozen mixed berries with Nesquik Plus chocolate syrup for dessert.

I know I haven't had much to eat today, but my body is a little out of whack after a weekend of indulging, from sleeping in today and then working through lunch. I'm not sure how much more I will be eating tonight, but I think I should be back on track tomorrow. I can't wait to start eating healthy meals again!
