Gym for Dummies

Caution: Rant Ahead!

Alrighty, I'm going to make this rant as brief as possible because a) I don't want to bore you to tears, and b) I don't like being a negative Nancy for too long. Here it goes...

I went on a 5k run outside tonight then stopped in at the gym immediately afterwards to fit in my biceps and triceps split workout. I arrive a bit of a sweaty mess and start to stretch out my legs. I notice a stocky man pounding away on some strength machines. He had the machines set at extremely high weights that were likely unsafe for him to use. This man would hop from machine to machine making loud grunting noises as he worked out using highly improper form that will probably cause him to develop some serious joint injuries in the near future.

Breath.

In the meantime, I'm working away at a slower, controlled pace doing split sets between biceps and triceps at a reasonable percentage of my max. For instance, I would do eight reps of bicep curls plus eight reps of tricep extensions three times to complete three sets for both biceps and triceps. Then, I rest for about 60 seconds before continuing with a new set of bicep and tricep
exercises. Anyway, this man stands behind me during each of his rest periods with arms folded and a huge smirk across his face as if to say "You are only lifting that much weight?". Ugh! I can't stand it when people stare while I'm working out especially with a huge smirk across their faces.

To conclude, I know what I'm doing and I know what works for my body. Some people I have encountered clearly don't have a clue or have been extremely misinformed. Sometimes I wish people should have to take a Gym for Dummies course before being able to workout in a gym. It would save them the embarassment of looking rediculous while working out and will probably save them from hurting themselves from doing exercises improperly.

That's it. Rant finished. Moving on.

Just before I went to the gym, I ate a delicious supper with Casey. First, we munched on some raw vegetables and ranch dip while we cooked.

We cooked up a pork roast rubbed with a peppery seasoning in the oven and boiled a few cobs of sweet corn.

Sweet corn has got to be one of my favourite foods and these cobs did not disappoint! They were super sweet and had a nice fresh crunch to them.

The pork was cooked perfectly, but I didn't really like the seasoning on the outside. It was just a little too strong for my tastes. I ended up cutting off the seasoned bits and eating the inside of the roast instead.

As I said earlier, I fit in a workout after dinner. I ran 5k outside in about half an hour before hitting the gym to fit in biceps and triceps. It felt great and I'm still riding the endorphine high. I hope I can calm down a bit before bedtime!

Questions:
Is there a certain type of person who bothers you while at the gym?
Have you ever encountered a person who judges you while working out?
What do you do when this happens?
What you do you think of Gym for Dummies? (Just kidding!)
