We woke up somewhat bright and early so we could hit the road in good time. I made myself a protein smoothie to drink on the way. I blended together one scoop of Bodylogix Vanilla Protein Powder, half of a frozen orange, half a cup of frozen mixed berries, a big handful of frozen baby spinach, half a cup of strawberry soy milk, and half a cup of water. This smoothie was perfection! I have never tasted a smoothie so delicious with the perfect texture!
We headed off on our little road trip to Rondeau Park in Southern Ontario.
Zekey snoozed as we made the trip down to the provincial park.
Unfortunately, as we got closer and closer to the park, the rain started to fall! It rained for the majority of the morning, alternating between heavy periods and a light mist at times.
We waited it out and drove around the park for a little while until the rain cleared up enough to hike. We started with the South Point Trail and managed to walk about half of it before lunch.
I grabbed a cherry Larabar to eat during our hike as a morning snack. I ended up splitting it with Casey and it held us over until we were able to eat lunch.
Zeke loved the trails and his new extendable leash that gives him freedom during our hiking trips. All of the trails there seemed to be paved or cleared really well, so it didn't really seem like we were hiking very much.
About halfway into our first trail, we found a little trail that went off of the main trail and down to the beach.
Unfortunately, it was to the lake side of the penninsula...the rough side! there were huge waves that were probably 4 or 5 feet tall. Zeke played around at the water's edge for a while, but we didn't stay too long.
Our first hike was roughly five and a half kilometers and took us right up until lunchtime. We found a pavillion to set up our picnic lunch and dug in!
I ate one multigrain bun with a bit of ham and havarti cheese, a ton of veggies, and two pieces of watermelon. I saved my Arizona green tea for the car ride home because it was a bit too cold to drink at lunch. I think Casey ended up drinking most of mine anyway!
After lunch, we headed out for our second trail of the day. This marshy trail took us straight down the bay side of the penninsula and was much calmer than the other side of the park.
Everything was very swampy and marshy, but it was pretty cool to look at!
We also ventured out to a lookout on the lake which was connected to the land by a long boardwalk through the reeds. It was pretty neat!
Our second hike of the day was about six and a half kilometers long. We were pretty tired by the time we made it back to the car, so we decided to call it a day.
We took the scenic route home and stopped for a little ice cream refreshment after a long day of hiking. Pralines and cream for me, mint chocolate chip for Casey!
We arrived home around dinner time and made the executive decision to eat out instead of slaving away in the kitchen when it was already getting late. We opted for all you can eat sushi in order to satisfy our various cravings!
I started off with two cups of green tea...
...and two orders of green salad. Give me a break, these things are tiny! I also scraped off a large portion of the dressing because I think there was more dressing in the bowl than there were vegetables. Yuck!
I also had two pieces of vegetable tempura...
...four pieces of rainbow roll...
...and a plate full of various sashimi (1 crab, 1 mackeral, 3 salmon, 3 red snapper).
To top it all off, I had one scoop of green tea ice cream, but was too full to finish it. I ended up giving the majority of it to Casey.
Despite the rain, the cold weather and the wind, we had an excellent hiking trip and every one of us had a blast! I couldn't imagine a more perfect way to celebrate our one-year anniversary than to be with our little family doing what we love to do!
