I started my day off with a tumbler of orange pekoe tea with a squirt of agave nectar to take with me to work. I needed a small caffeine boost that black tea can provide. I didn't want to get too jittery and drink coffee two days in a row. Eek!
I underestimated how hungry I would get with only tea instead of first breakfast, so I caved and ended up munching on a banana cream cheese wrap with the kids in the morning program. It was made up of a small tortilla wrap, half of a banana, and about a tablespoon of light cream cheese. First breakfast it is!
Shortly after I got home from program, I was feeling a bit hungry again. I made myself a bowl of protein-packed oatmeal by microwaving about 1/3 cup of plain oats, a tablespoon of organic milled flaxseed, roughly 4 egg whites, and a bit of water. When it was all heated up, I added a squirt of agave nectar for sweetness.
These oats were super eggy, which helped keep them from going mushy. Plus, the milled flaxseed added a bit of a nice grainy texture to the oatmeal.
Alright, so I've upped my morning protein without eliminating any typical carbohydrates; however, I will try to focus on veggies and protein for the rest of my meals today. I like to "carbo-load" with healthy whole grains and fibre in the mornings to keep my blood sugar stable throughout the day, then gradually eliminate carbs as the day goes on!
